In this Game Maker unit, we learned how to change a source into an executable game, what the difference is between a sprite, event and background is and how to control them and much more...For example to creating a game such as Catch The Clown; there are many steps and these will be explained briefly below:
clown.exe | |
File Size: | 4161 kb |
File Type: | exe |
To play the game you must first download Game Maker at: http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker/download
STEP #1
We first added the background that we had downloaded just like any pictures; right click and then save picture as, if it is a square icon it is easier.
STEP #2
Then we added our sprites; a clown and an additional wall so it doesn't fly off the screen. We added actions to the clown, which were:
Then we set everything in a room which is very customizable, you can even have more than one representing levels. In these rooms, you set the background, where you want the clown to start and the surrounding walls or other sprites. You can set later whether you want to control it with a keyboard or the mouse. We could then add sound effects by downloading them and adding them as an event to a sprite or a room.
- When it hits the wall bounce back.
- Move randomly.
- When clicked on points increase.
- When clicked on starts from another position.
- When clicked on speed increases.

STEP #3
Afterwards, after you finish editing, you have to execute it to play with it, before this time you could have had a sneak peek at the game. There is a button under FILE which says: MAKE EXECUTABLE, this will turn the events, backgrounds, sprites etc. into a real game!
<- Before executing, preview the game with the green button.
